We are moving Values to Database Fields using Embedded SQL Concept. In Embedded SQL, We can decide the Variable Names dynamically. Is it possible with Display File? why?

RPGLE Embedded SQL Not null

RPGLE Embedded SQL is getting a SQL0305 (SQLcid-305, sqlstate 22002) when fetching the next record from a view. This is pointing to null values encountered.

 /free                                                   exec sql                                                fetch next from C1 into :wtclaims                  ;  /end-free

Wtclaims is an Externally Described Data structure.

There could be null values in any field in the ds over the files.

What are mt options to handle null values?

Ihave noted code where ‘not null’ is used. Do I have to do this for each field? Can something be done for the whole DS or as a compile option?

Embedded SQL using SUM or some other method to total up qty and display 1 unique record

I have an sqlrpgle pgm setup, I want to add another sql select statement. I have a file that contains barcode label data, where multiple records can be assigned to the same Master serial #. My sqlrpg pgm is display various sorts in a screen inquiry. I want to setup my select, to display one record for each MASTER serial #(acsr2), and display how much total qty (add up SHQT for each ACSR2 field) is assigned to each master serial #. I am not sure of the syntax to use in embedded sql to do this. I need help on the correct syntax to use to build the SQL Select statement to do this function.

On the fetch next, the header data structure receives all data from the row selected. How do I include the detail?

The only way that I can think of quickly that might make it work is to CREATE VIEW over a JOIN of the two files. Then reference the VIEW name in EXTNAME() for a single E DS. You don’t actually need to use the VIEW for anything other than that reference. That is, you don’t need to SELECT from it if you don’t want to. The pre-compiler will only detect one DS for one SELECT. There is only a single set of columns in the returned result set.

Selecting Field Defined as L in SQL Server

I am building 4 part SQL select across 4 files using union alls. All 4 files have a date field which is one of the fields I am selecting. My problem is that on one file the date field is defined as L type where the other three files have a date field defined as 8S 0. Since the field I am selecting into has to be compatible across all 4 files and L data type is not an option in RPG…. How can I define or convert this L field so that it will pull it in to the D data type field I currently have defined? Or how can I define the field I am fetching into so that it will be compatible across all 4 files?
