Have an application server with 2 NICs.

LAN1 = corporate network (in which clients connect to server for app use) LAN2 = DSL internet & remote connection

The application on this server is designed to send alerts to the clients (connected via LAN1) and it also has email functionality (configured using POP3) that needs to be outbound via LAN2 due to LAN1 blocking this traffic.

Right now, LAN1 does not have a default gateway defined which is allowing the email functionality to work just fine, clients can connect to the server’s app via LAN1 fine as well, but the alerts that the app is supposed to send to the client does not work.

When I disable LAN2 completely, clients connect to the server’s app fine and the application successfully sends alerts to the clients as it is designed to do, but the email functionality no longer works because of the blocked outbound traffic.

What is the proper way to set this up? Is it something that can be correcting using static routes? RRAS perhaps?

I’ve searched high and low for an answer to this but this answer eludes me and I’m sure there is a relatively simple fix that I am just not recalling.
Scenario: I have a machine running a Windows Server OS (Server 2003) that has 2 NIC’s in it. Onto this machine was installed a single-user installation of the Notes client for one particular individual. The 2 nic’s are for 2 completely different networks, and they connect to 2 very different switches, and there is no overlap from one nic to the other.
I am trying to ensure that the person using the Lotus Notes client always uses a specific network adapter, and not the one that has no NRPC traffic on it whatsoever. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Something that doesn’t involve shutting down, or hardware profiles is preferable, but I need to know regardless.
Please let me know, and thanks for your answers in advance.

I use a pair of HP Procurve 2824 and a pair of 2650 switches and I think I want them to pass all data through without filtering. I also need to make my Windows 2000 Server share a wider range of IP addresses, since I’ve depleted my entire supply. The Server is currently via DHCP is giving out 192.168.101 addresses and assigning fixed addresses as well. I want to push out additional 192.168.102 and 192.168.103 addresses. I currently use 255.255.255.0 sn mask. I think I need to chg to 255.255.0.0 So, if this is correct, If I change to 255.255.0.0 on my Server I will then have to run around like a crazy person changing all the fixed IP addressed machine’s sn masks, right? If I get my Server to use 255.255.0.0 on it’s second NIC, once I open up the switches to route all traffic, can’t I be a bit more relaxed on the rollout as won’t the applications be available via the second card? I want DHCP to begin giving out 192.168.102.xx addresses for those who are not fixed IP and again, I believe this will require the 255.255.0.0 Does this make sense?
