We already thanks to me have a number of batch/DTS package type transfers.

Do any of you know packages that can make the iSeries files available to MS VB.NET programmers (transparently) so the iSeries just looks like another (MS) SQL – Server to them?

I understand SQL stored procedures on the AS/400 generate C source code which is compiled to create a C ILE program object. I could use the same SQL statements in an RPGLE with embedded SQL program and use that to create a RPG stored procedure. Which of the two is more efficient?

Well, it is running! I’ve tried starting and stopping using the STRDBGSVR and ENDDBGSVR commands as well as right clicking a RSE subsystem and using the Remote Servers option there. The stupid thing is that when the debug server is running (jobs QB5ROUTE and QB5ROUTER running in QSYSWRK subsystem) and I try and do as the error message tells me (to right click one of the RSE subsystems and choose remote servers and start debug server) it tells me that the debug server is already running and only one instance can be started but debug launcher tells me it’s not running and won’t start.

On the iSeries I’m running V5R2M0 at cummulative fix level 5123 just recently applied. The verify connection option checks out all OK. All required PTF’s applied and debug daemon callback on port 8001 and RSE daemon callback on port 4300 all report OK. The debug server jobs are running and listening on ports 3001 (QDBGSVR) and 3825.

My WDSc install has all the latest updates to Version: 6.0.1 Build id: 20050725_1800.

I’ve also tried connecting to a V5R3 system at cummulative PTF level 5207 (verify connection all checks out here too) with the same result. This leads me to suspect it’s something to do with the WDSc config. on my PC.

I’m at a complete loss now as to why I can’t start a debug from within WDSc. Why do I constantly get the message…

“ISeries Debug Server has not been started yet.
Please right click on one of the Subsystems in the Remote System View, and choose Remote Server -> Debug -> Start. Or, you can run command STRDBGSVR in your iSeries host.”

When the debug server is so obviously already running?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I attended one interview now and I am unable to answer one question, actually the question was on the Java messaging,if we send some message to say MQ Series Queue and If the MQ series server is down, how do we can handle resending message, it should be simple but since i didn’t work in messaging properly i dont know the answer of it, Kindly help me out with your answers.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to count the number of records matching specified criteria in large PF. (The file has over 50 million records currently and with some purging we hope to bring it down to around 20 mil.)

Anyway, I created the (SQL) view:

I then declared a cursor for the view in my RPGLE pgm, as I’ll need multiple rows within this view to get the count I ultimately want.

The problem (as I’m sure you’ve already worked out) is that the *PGM runs runs for ages. Am I better off reading the base file in good old RPG or is there any other way I can improve this?

I have a written a CL program that just SNDRCVF the screen record format which consists of a sample text to display. It works fine when I call the CL program from the command prompt.

I have converted this screen using Webfacing perspective of WDSc. The source is converted on my local machine. Than I run this webfacing project selecting Tomcat sever 4.0 that I have installed on my machine. It runs but does not show the screen or in other words the sample screen consisting the text message is not shown. When I say launch there is some processing happening but no screen is shown.

Please guide me what to do or how should I make this sample screen run. Please provide any details of a sample conversion.

Also please provide a list of application mining tools for the iSeries. Tools that can document the current code and extract application knowledge, domain knowledge and business rules automatically for applications developed in RPG, CL.
