Confused about the career path

From last 4 years i am a technical support engineer dealing with AS400 servers and bmc patrol and remedy. Well my organization is giving me an opportunity to switch to QA. I dont know what to do.. There are two options now in front of me either switch to Software Testing or learn more about AS400 Administration and move ahead as a AS400 administrator.. Please its a humble request guide me and educate me because it would be the turning point in my life.. Thank you very much….

Post Implementation Hours for QA purposes

Is there a set industry standard that indicates the hours for Post Implementation Review? For example, should it be 25% of your total QA hours? I know the actual number of hours will depend on size and complexity of the project.

Dear colleagues: Thanks for all your useful information, in this time I would like to ask about the recommended period of time to test a new system (Financial area) to be put in Production mode. I know this completely depends on the kind of system as well as the volume of data which will be managed but talking about a financial system where we have lots of transactions and data I think the recommended time to test would be from 4 to 6 months but I am not quite sure. Considering a system which is in production, it is recommended to use the one which is new parallel in order to catch the errors, isn´t it? I´ll appreciate your answers as well as your comments. Thanks!

Has anyone set up a workflow for Unit Testing in QC and what are the things to watch out for?

I’m concious that our current Defect workflow will not suit Unit testing and wondered how other organisations manage it.

Create QA database with only some production tables

I have a large database with some tables that have largely static data. I need to make a new database on a different server with the same table structure with the static data tables intact (keys, etc.). The other tables must be empty. They’re all in the same filegroup in the original database. I’ve done this once, by some sort of partial (copy only?) backup and changing filenames… but I’ve lost the script and I can’t locate the original article (yes, I’m kicking myself).
