Greetings all,

I have a Vista home premium 64-bit, 4GB AMD ram, etc on a HP pavillion Laptop. My goal is to work with DB2 in testing advanced features such as replication, federation, failover and data partitioning (DPF). I want to do all of this with one physical machine (a spare office laptop) hence I want to use VMware to vitualize one to three popular operating systems (OS) such as windows Server/Red Hat linux, etc. I have VMware 6.5 up and running, installed my first guest operating system – Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.1. I need help with the following:

It is in configuring my Vista OS to Talk/See my Window Server2003 OS and by extension Access/Communicate with DB2 Instance(s) from both server using TCP/IP protocol that I need with a HOWTO. Is this possible? I seems like it should be possible but I am having trouble sorting out what I need to do and how to do it on one physical machine.

For example, I want to be able to see any DB2 Instance on this one physical machine from my DB2 Control Center on the Vista Home Premium that came with the laptop. If I can get this done, then I would be able to begin setup for my list of testing.

Has anyone performed a setup such as I have described here? Can someone share their knowledge of how (detailed step by step, please) to setup networking from one application to another in different OS? If I want Vista to “talk to” Windows server2003 on VMware, what do I have to do in terms of setting up IP addresses that both can recognize and be able to catalog TCP/IP nodes and access the database of Server2003 from Vista machine?

Same thing goes if I want Vista to “talk to” Red Hat Linux5.1, what do I have to do?

Finally, within VMware, how do I configure Windows Server-2003-A to talk to Windows Server-B or Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

I am desperately looking for some assistance to accomplish this mini project that I have and any assistance that gets me going forward will be highly appreciated.

Thank very much in advance

Okonita
