My first question please feel free to point out to me if i need to do any of this differently

I am looking to create a button that opens an existing form with a new record and inserts into a field in the new record data from the parent form. We have a system where information is distributed to our officers and they have to sign off on it. each information “alert” is assigned a unique identifier. I need somethign that inserts that identifier into the new record on a table i created that keeps track of who read the alert and signed off on it

Access 2000
PostgreSQL Back end
Windows 2003 Server
Windows XP Professional
postgreSQL ODBC driver
