We have Hp Netbooks at our school and the tech people will not allow the computer carts (each holds 25 netbookc) to travel about 150 feet across a paved parking lot in the winter (we are in Iowa)because they feel the 60 seconds they are outside will damage the computers. We feel this is not true as we carry our labtops outside between the buildings and have no problems. I am looking for a specific answer to provide the tech people and administration to tell them that the computers will not be damaged by this 60 second trip between buildings. They like to call it “Cold Shock” and say they can not travel between buildings. One note next year we are purchasing 270 computers for the Jr and Sr classes to begin a 1 to 1 program where all students will be given thier won computer to use 24-7. They say when that happens the computers will be fine to travel outside. Can the computers safely be transported 150 feet in cold weather in an encloed cart? Thanks for your help

I am looking for a device that attaches between the RS-232 port on a computer (in this case a laptop) and a Serial device (in this case an old programmable logic controller) that acts as a signal buffer. I’m NOT looking for something that stores data, rather I’m looking for a device that will protect the port on the laptop from spikes as well as improperly wired or damaged ports on the PLC machines. I’m looking at making my own, with a ZIF socket so that a damaged buffer chip (probably a MAX232) can be swapped out quickly, but I don’t want to re invent the wheel is a similar device exists.
Thanks!

Hi,

I am attempting to install an HP Laserjet 1320 pcl 6 printer, connecting to the pc using a USB
cable, the PC is running Windows XP.

When I launch the installation program from the CD and begin the driver installation, I get a
Windows error message which reads:

Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
hp LaserJet 1320 PCL 6
An error occurred during the installation of this device
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I get the same error message when I use the drivers downloaded from the HP website.

I have deleted the printer from Device Manager, but when reinstalling it, I get the same error.

If I connect the PC to another printer on our network (another HP 1320) and install it as a network printer, then the installation appears fine. But when trying to print, I get an error
message which states:

Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from windows
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online
*Reinstall the printer driver

Any ideas?

thanks, Nick
