I have just added a new blade server HP PROLIANT BL 465 G7 to a HP C7000 ENCLOSURE. The server was installed on slot 4 of the blade enclosure. It has a QLOGIC hba installed on it. There is no operating system installed. The fibre cable has been connected to the pass through module at the back on the corresponding port ie port 4. This has been connected to the MDS SWITCH. The port on the MDS SWITCH has been enable. When running FLOGI DATABASE command on the swith it does not show the WWN of the HBA CARD on the server. Is it because there is no OS installed on the server. What do I need to do for this to be visible to the switch without installing operating system.

I’m using vSphere 4.0, ESX 4.0, and have a DELL CX 300 SAN with LUNs that are attached to a DELL blade server w/hba. I need to move the LUN’s from the blade serve and attach them to a new VM. I know that I need to use RDM but not sure where to start or how to proceed. Do I have to move or copy data from current LUN’s to new RDM LUN’s or just attach the LUN’s to the VM? Thanks

I run a system comprised of 36 IBM Blade servers, a Hitachi 64TB SAN, a Data Domain backup suite and connection devices. I run Windows 2003 R2 (32bit) and Red Hat 4 (64bit). I have just come across a problem in that all the windows blades in one (of three) chassis are displaying my drive E: (which is/was a “Partition Basic NTFS” mount on the SAN) as a “spanned Dynamic” disk. This occurred to all the SAN mounts on this specific chassis at the same time. No one switched the disk format; it occurred just after updating the firmware on a Cisco MDS switch, though for the life of me I cannot see a correlation. I cannot have a non-fault tolerance mount with the data I am administering. Has anyone seen this before or can explain how this occurred? Does anyone know of a way to convert from Dynamic spanned back to a basic disk mount without losing data? Thanx.
