If I open a report using a different data source, that data source becomes the data source for all subsequent reports. The only way to correct it is to go to File Options and change the default data source back to the one the report needs. There must be a way to keep a dtat source “married” to its report. Any ideas?

am really new to Crystal Reports (currently using version 8.5) and I would like to create a new report based on another. Basically I am trying change the SQL query of the original report and since I can only view the query, I am assuming that I will have to create a whole new version of the report based on a slightly different query. I am able to create the new report from the modified query that I created and saved in Crystal SQL Designer but it is not behaving the way I think it should and I think it might have to do with the fact that the report is created from the query and not from the database and its tables. Ultimately, I would like to create the report from scratch by adding tables from the database but it looks like there are indexes incorporated into the report when I look into the “Visual Linking Expert”. When I did a little bit deeper into the VLE there is an option to “Add Index” but that button is greyed out. Could someone explain to me why this is and how I can add an index to this report? Thanks
