I have two combo boxes, each with a collection from 0 – 10.
A number has been generated using the randomize() function – between 1 – 20 and is shown in a label.text.
My problem involves the combo boxes not actually ‘adding up’ like numbers should. Maybe because they aren’t actually number at all, I’m not sure.
So for example, the random number equals to 10.
You use the dropdown boxes to find the numbers that equal to 10. And so after that, when you click – I guess, an ‘Enter’ button, it doesn’t equal.
I’ve been using this code:
If Combobox1.SelectedItem + Combobox2.SelectedItem = label3.text then
msgbox(“correct”)
end if
Am I on the right track?

I have a DB for recording safety information. I have a form to document individual accidents. Each accident can cause multiple types of harm to multiple assets. In the accident form, I have a combobox where I can select a single asset and another where I can select its associated types of harm. Once I make these two selections, I would like a button to create a new record made up of the selected asset and its associated types of harm. I would like to be able to go through this process a number of times (selecting one assets and multiple harm types) until I have identified all of the types of assets the accident can harm including the different relevant type of harm. I am not sure the best way to organize tables to do this and I do not know how to write the VB code for the button that adds a new asset with its harm types. Note that different assets have different numbers of harm types.

I am totally new to VB and access and this is the hardest thing I have tried to do (as well as likely to be the hardest thing I need to do).

This is going into a book on safety (DB on CD) and I would be happy to acknowledge in the book the person who helps me solve this problem.

Searched high and low and while there are many internet posts addressing this topic, none seem to be geared low enough for this ubernubee. I have 2 tables, one lists various addresses and associated file numbers, the file numbers are unique and the primary key in the table. The other table lists various property details associated with each address and each record is unique with an autonumber primary key column. I am trying to create a form where i can select the file (unique value from table 1)number via combo box (which i have created a query for to list all file numbers). Once the desired file number is selected from the combo box i would like another query i built to run using the selected file number (from combo box) as the parameter for the query and displaying the desired property details (stored in my second table) elswhere on the form or in a subform on the form… whatever. I would also like to be able to then enter or change info on this portion of the form/subform and have it update the appropriate record in the table (table 2). I actually had it mostly working yesterday, but then i tried to add a little further functionality… (getting it to display the address stored in table 1 refreshing every time a new value was selected in the combo box) and blew the whole thing up… problem is getting it to work yesterday was a total fluke, which i seem unable to repeat. I’ve found many discussion of others trying to do the same thing (combo box to query with a requery every time a new selection is made in the combo box…), but most of the discussions end up leading into VB, or SQL or get beyond me in expression building… I need instructions that your dog could understand… this is the first time i’ve used access in almost 10 years and even at that point i only had a portion of an introductory computer class dedicated to access under my belt. I’m using 2007, but have 2003 available. I’m intelligent enough to follow good instructions, just very unfamiliar with the terms and lingo. I would really, really, really appreciated 5 min of someone’s time on this! Thanks,
