We have 2 sites. Point A and point B. Point A has a 100M ethernet line on a 100M port and point B has a logically 20M line seating on a 100M port.

Telco providers use traffic shaping to logically set the bandwidth on their L2 device at their nearest office from point B. We have multiple circuits with this telco and they are using the same vlan within the telco NW side. From our side, we set our own vlan between our cisco devices at both point A and point B. All our traffic are transparent to the telco including our vlan tags. When we conducted our regular TCP test from server to server, it failed. We were not getting the expected bandwidth. From point A to point B, it was good but from point B to point A, we were getting only about 2M. The telco insist their comittment is up to L2, they have conducted throughput test sending 20M of frames across the wire and they were all good. But still, the issue remains on the same on our side, we’ve also tried traffic shaping on our side. From the telco perspective, they just prepare the road, and they let us drive whatever car we want.

Any ideas or suggestions what could be causing this or has anyone experienced this kind of issue before? We use iperf for testing.

Thanks

We recently initiated a branch office setup in the same city. (Setup is still in process) Currently in Main branch we are using Cisco 2800 series router and Cisco 6500 series Core Switches. Similarly in Branch Office, we have one Cisco 2800 series router and some POE switches.

in order to connect both branches together, we will be acquiring IP/VPN Connection from service provider. The idea is to utilize each others resources.

We are planning to treat our Branch office network as a subnet of Main Branch. Therefore we’ll be using the same IP schema but offcourse on different VLAN. (OR should i treat it as a separate network?)

To my understanding IP/VPN link will terminate on the Router of Branch office and other end will be terminate on the router of Main Office. (Please correct me if i am wrong).

Secondly, do I have to do something else on Router or on Switch to make it work properly? Am I MISSING anything??

Your detailed response is anticipated.

Regards – MAK

Hi experts,
I want to connect with a web server in remote end using leased line connectivity through Cisco 2800 series router
I have a flat network with 500 users in network. All PC’s default gateways are configured the IP of routers Ethernet.

When I am ping the web server from LAN it is taking more time to get replay than usual. Some times it takes 60ms to 2600ms and some times the message “request time out”
I can access all internal servers in my LAN easily. But I am not able to access the web server in the remote end.
If I connect only some users to LAN then I can access web server easily
So I don’t think it’s the problem of router connectivity.

From two week am facing this problem, before it was working fine, we did no done any changes in either router or switch configuration, number of users also same like before.
So it is not the bandwidth problem I think
Plz give me a solution
