I have 3 AD servers, one forest, one tree, one site My main AD server holds all of the FSMO roles.Until now, there hasn’t been a need to have any sort of sync or network connection between our office and any of our other offices.
we’ve been asked to support their network, possibly

long-term. They currently use OD, and I’m planning on migrating all of the users and computers into a new AD server, that I will be installing.

Once we realize the benefits that this will provide us, I can see me

being asked to do the same things to at least our other US offices. Our current domain is city.company.com, though we’ve been

slowly moving to just company.com. I think the most logical way to

name the sites moving forward is city.company.com.

Should I consider creating a parent child relationship, or just go

with trusts?

I am trying to setup a child domain to join an existing domain. Since DNS is required, I am confused. The first DC used itself as preferred DNS, and I can see all the records created when the active directory is installed.

For the second DC (probably located in a different location), is it setup to use the first DC as preferred DNS(knowing that wan link between to location exists)?

I have delegated the DNS for the child domain and created the A host pointing to the second DC on my first DC. When I promoted the second Server , it seems successful but the folders like _mscdcs for the second DC exists on the first DC and the loading is like 2 minutes as well.

So i’m thinking if I did this right. that if ever other server will exist like dhcp, will I just use the second DC as preferred DNS?

Second Site:
Child DC DNS = First DC

DHCP Server
Will use SECOND DC as DNS

Workstation
WIll follow DHCP

Hi I am trying to create a separate Exchange 2010 server in a child domain that we have configured. We have an existing Exchange 2007 server in our root domain college.ac.uk and have a child student.college.ac.uk domain. We have configured a separate DC for the child domain also. However when we launch the EMC is still shows the college.ac.uk mailboxes. We would just like to display the student.college.ac.uk accounts and keep the two systems separate. We are trying to set up a separate domain for students and also an Exchange server for them so that we can keep the two servers apart enabling us to create policies specific to them and also to give them a username@student.college.ac.uk email address. Is this possible and could someone point me in the right direction of what I need to do to achieve this. Thanks

Transport rules can stop the users mailing out of the organization but we want to stop them mailing to the parent domain. We would also like to stop them seeing the parent domain GAL. Is this possible or are we asking too much?

I have a single Windows server 2003 SP2 AD forest with two DCs Along with that, we have four remote sites. Each of these remote sites has a local DC (W2K3 SP2) configure as a child domain. One of the remote site was shut down. We are now asked to remove the child DC from Parent AD. We have plugged the child DC into our parent network and
assigned it a local IP (different from the remote IP subnet). We are now
getting the Event ID 2042 which states that NTDS Replication can not be
