Can I use switches to extend my network? What is the limit of how far I can physically extend it? We are using Cat6 and gigabit.

What is the maximum cable length we can run from the switch to the desktop? What about from the patch panel to the switch to the desktop? Using cat 6? Is it different with cat 5 or 5e?

Can CAT5e patch leads be used in a buiding that has been cabled with CAT6. ? Can the CAT5e leads be used at the patch panel end and the wall plate end connecting to PCs?
