If you have seen my inquiry on another board, please forgive this cross-posting. I am seeking as broad an audience within the Exchange 2007 SP1 community as possible in seeking an answer to my inquiry.

BACKGROUND:

Our organization currently has a single-forest, single-domain Active Directory infrastructure that is entirely located within a single AD site. We use Exchange 2003 in a front-end/back-end configuration and use an Ironmail appliance as an external SMTP gateway.

We are in the process of introducing Exchange 2007 SP1 to our infrastructure and have successfully ran all of the PrepareAD processes successfully. We have built our 64-bit Windows Server 2008 servers and have them ready for Exchange 2007 SP1.

HIGH-AVAILABILITY GOAL:

Our desired high-availability configuration is to use four servers for our Exchange 2007 infrastructure. Two of these servers will connect to shared storage and serve as a two-node single-copy (SCC) mailbox cluster.

The other two servers will each have both the Hub Transport (HT) and Client-Access (CAS) roles installed on them. Our existing Ironmail appliance will continue to serve as our external SMTP gateway, in lieu of an Edge Transport server.

I understand that by design, having multiple HT servers provides redundancy and using load-balancing is not required (nor supported for internal connectors). However, we want to load-balance the CAS role only on the two servers, using Windows Load Balance Service (WLBS).

THE QUESTION:

Have any of you successfully load-balanced CAS using WLBS on servers that also have the HT role installed on them. If so, how did you configure WLBS, in terms of port rules? Is there any specific guidance that you would offer or lessons learned in how you were able to get it to work?

Also, are there any specific additional connectors (either send, receive or both) that need to be set up to allow HT to work normally and skirt the CAS load balancer?

Thanks in advance for any guidance any of you are able to provide. I hope soon to be in the position of offering similar guidance to the next person to come along with a similar issue.

I’m upgrading my organization from windows 2000 domain with exchange 2000 to windows 2008 domain with exchange 2007.
I’ve added two new servers to my site : one with windows 2008 server to be AD and another to be exchange.
I joing the new dc to the existing forest and moved all AD rules to it.then I installed the exchange 2007 on the second server and join it to the existing exchange 2000 organization.
every thing went well but the OWA on the exchange 2007 does’nt work. I’m able to put a user name and password but I’m not getting a gui screen only a text screen with the directories of my outlook and I can’t get into any of them.
My exchange 2007 server is enterpries edition and I’ve installed the exchange roolup 7 from windows update. I even unistalled the CAS and reinstall it again but i’m getting the same resault. another thing is if i’m working with forms registration I getting a blank page with reason 0 error.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi. thanks for taking time and effort.

I have one AD site..multiple locations. worldwide.root.lcl. i have a cas setup in chicago and in sydney. I want users in Sydney be able to use the Chicago url…chicagomail.worldwide.com.. and be directed to their mailbox servers in Sydney. As well as for RPC over HTTPS. However i have an ISA in Chicago in front of the CAS in Chicago. and the Sydney is not part of the server farm. Should it be? and if it is doesnt that mean if chicago users would also hit that CAS (in sydney) and then be redirected to their Mailbox server in Chicago?

So all i really want to do is have the Sydney and Chicago users use the same url…

thanks for the time and effort.

We have set up Network Load Balancing (NLB) on two Hub Transport/Client Access servers.
(Windows Server 2008/Exchange Server 2007)

When we go directly to either of the nodes, we can access OWA just fine.

However, when we try to go to the new NLB cluster, by name or IP address, we get this:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.

The NLB cluster name and IP are in DNS; nslookup works fine and we can ping it by name and IP address.

What am I missing?

We have followed several articles to the letter. They all have the same information and do not indicate the need for any additional configuration once the cluster is set up. Is there any configuration needed in IIS (or anywhere else) for this?
