BRMS, after an initialize or a backup, is requesting that the tape be moved back to its slot in the library while the tape is still in a loaded state. This is causing a third party tape library to place the drive into a FAILed state, as the MOVE command should not be issued until the tape is unloaded. This occurs when the INITIALIZE command(or the backup command) is issued against a tape which was originally unmounted. The third party vendor placed a fiber channel analyzer between the AS/400 and the tape library and, even though the ^UNLOAD option was specified, there was no unload command issued prior to the MOVE command.

Issues with BRMS Network Group

When you go to BRMS Menu –> Policy Administration –> System Policy –> Change Network Group, you can see all the Boxes connected each other.
There are 5 LPARS in total.

It shows Network Status INACTIVE on one while the others shows ACTIVE. and receive media info is set to none

What steps would you recommend to perform to set this system back active as always.

I am chasing a simple CL program to check if the currently loaded tape has the data as *expired so it can be written to under BRMS. It shouldn’t be that hard but I’ve searched for literally days and can’t find anyone to help.

BRMS using newly expired tapes

Hi, we are having some problems with the behavior of our backup process, since its using the latest / newly expired tapes instead of those which are expired long ago. As a result, the newly expired tapes doesnt get cleaned (STRMNTBRM) since it already has new files in it, together with the older files. What could be the cause of this? . . .Thanks

iSeries backup encryption on LT04?

Hi,
We are looking to encrypt our backups and having looked about it appears that using a fibre attached LT04 in the tape library where the encryption is done at hardware level would be the best /cheapest option. It is the best option for us as it also says that no software is required, however upon reading more about it i’m reading that BRMS is required for it to work, this is software ! Not only that but BRMS does not come with a license for Encryption, you have to buy that seperately which for a P20 is $18000. So the questions are do you NEED BRMS and if so do you also need that specific licensed program or just base BRMS? Thanks for any help,
