i try to create Multiple-format Logical File but i getting compile time error.

i have two PF dds is as follow..

A R RDEPTMST

A DEPTNAME 15

A DID 5

A LNAME 15

A R RBIODATA

A FNAME 10A

A LNAME 10A

A DID 5

A MNAME 10

**********************************

i created Multiple-format Logical File for above two PF

DDS is as follow

A R RBIODATA PFILE(BIODATA)

A K FNAME

A R RDEPTMST PFILE(DEPTMST)

A K DEPTNAME

******************************

when i try to compile above LF getting error

ID Severity Number

* CPF3238 40 1 Message . . . . : Key field DEPTNAME not same as previous formats.

how to solve this error?

Hello All,

1.I need to know when an update happens to Physical file the updates should not reflect in the corresponding logical file. Please let me know what needs to be done for this.

2. How will we update a field in a physical nd not the whole record in RPG IV. Please explain with an example.

DBCS “open data type” problem – time-critical situation

BACKGROUND:
We use a case tool to create simple file maintenance and inquiry programs over our core software’s database. The new release of our core software has added DBCS support, and has changed a lot of long fields which were formerly data type “A” to data type “O”. Our case tool is recognizing these as numeric and not processing correctly; the vendor says they have no plans to address the issue.
QUESTION:
Is there some way we can code a logical file such that we can redefine one of these “O” fields into an “A” field so our case tool could still work? I’m thinking of something simiilar to the way you can create “new” fields that are substrings of existing fields. I see mention of a “use code” parameter “N” that allows redefining the attributes of the original field, which might help. However, I cannot find enough documentation on any of this to figure out how to use it.

How can I make this index using “a comparison value for fields” on Iseries Navigator ?

What does a Logical File in AS/400 contain?
