Has anyone else had a problem with IFS folders where they have suddenly gone to read-only when accessing them from an XP client using WIndows Explorer and UNC or mapped network drive.

Checking the folder permissions on the iSeries shows that public has all rights, but the properties on the PC show the folder as read-only. Removing the check from the read-only box makes no difference, and the check re-appears.

Using an FTP client with the same AS400 credentials works, we are able to write files to the folder.

Looking in the attributes of the IFS ROOT show that the read-only attribute is set to YES. However this has not been changed (as far as I know, and I am one of only 2 people in the company who would have access to do that). What are other people’s systems attributes set to?

I am in the same location as the iSeries so we’re not going through firewalls etc.

We are upgrading to Rel 5.0 of VAI’s ERP package, and will be using their GUI interface. We have many, non-technical people, who help train users across the country. They have been using Peekplus, by Bytware, to watch their trainees. This product does not support GUI. Does anyone know a product/solution that could be used? We are trying to avoid ones that would just open the network/firewall – or require complicated connection issues. We have a windows network in out main building, each location is their own internal network with a VPN back to corporate.

We have an AS/400 in California and wish to allow a new warehouse in Texas to communicate to our AS/400 and print forms in their warehouse. What is the easiest way to do this? I’m not sure if it is best to set up a T1 line with a modem and controller, or to use some sort of PC connection. Basically we only need one or two users to access the system. I am concerned about the logistics, cost, etc.

I created a vpn tunnel connecting 2 of my offices together using a Linksys RV016 at the main office and a Linksys WRV54G at a branch office. The main office is using 192.168.0.x and the branch using 192.168.2.x. I am able to ping all of the pc’s at the branch from the main office and I can also ping all of the main office pc’s from the branch pc’s.

The problem is I can not ping our iSeries(192.168.0.220) system from the branch. I can hit every system except that. I also can not ping the branch pc’s from the iSeries system. Is there some setting on the iSeries that will block requests from anything outside of its subnet? Or maybe I am missing something simple. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John
