I am attempting to configure two VLANs with a NetGear FS726T switch without success. What I am trying to do is to have one VLAN which would be used by the staff to access to anything on the network and a second VLAN for guests to use to access only the Internet. In a reply to a previous post I was told that I also need a router to accomplish this.

We have an ActionTec M1000 modem connected to our DSL line for our Internet connection. Upon looking up the specs for this device, I see that it is described as a “modular DSL router”. So, my question is: can this device do what is required for me to establish the two VLANs that I described? If so, what changes are required to its configuration, if any?

The link to the specs of the modem is: http://www.actiontec.com/products/datasheets/M1000%20Modular%20DSL%20Router%20Datasheet%2013-1s.pdf

Finally, if this device isn’t sufficient and I need to purchase a router, what specifications do I look for to support the VLANs I want to put into place? Is there a NetGear router that you would recommend for this purpose? Thank you very much for your help!!
