How to Set Active Period in a Table

There is a table of multiYears record. Transaction date should be between Active Period. If any time I want to change/edit previous year record, first, i have to set that year as Active period. I have to select active period through a Form by dropdown Combo box option. When I select any year, this should set as active and previously set as active should be automatically set as inactive. Type of ActiveDective field is YES/NO. Please help
