By asking about “Daily/weekly & monthly”, it is implied that those new libraries are saved multiple times. Did they blow out the number of tapes each time?

It wouldn’t surprise me that they were saved after creation. They had never been saved before, so they could be expected to be saved that day. But it might be unusual if they continued to be saved even though no changes happened in them later.

Were new libraries saved during later backups without any changes to those libraries? A little more detail on the full sequence could clarify what is happening.

Am I to assume that the CRTLIB command ALWAYS adds new libraries and flags them for daily/weekly/monthly backup?

This have never even crossed my mind before so I guess that the shops I have worked at never used the system backup jobs to back libraries in this fashion.

The reason I ran into this, is I started work at a new place. I had to restore a ton of data from a backup and so I created a new library to restore the data to, not knowing that this new library would be flagged for the daily backup. When our daily backup ran that night it blew out the number of tapes.

So I questioned why my new library was auto added to the Daily/weekly & monthly backup and ……. no one here knows

I hoped someone might have an answer.

Backup guidelines

Library and Folder Backup Lists

The library backup list along with the folder backup list
contain the names of all user libraries and folders on the system.

By default, all user libraries and folders contained in the library backup list are selected for backup.

The importance of the libraries and folders should be considered when deciding which libraries to exclude from a daily, weekly, or monthly backup operation. User libraries or folders containing less important information can be excluded from daily or even weekly save operations. User libraries containing information pertinent to system operations should be backed up more frequently. Excluding
less important libraries and folders saves you time and media.

I do not have a problem with the libraries that are selected for backup, and can manipulate the settings for my existing libraries without a problem.

The issue is, when I use the CRTLIB command to create a new library it is automatically included in the BACKUP and flagged for backup daily/weekly and monthly.

I do not see any parameter on the CRTLIB command that would auto flag the new library for backup. So I need to know what setting is causing the new libraries to be flagged in this way. From the SETUPBCKUP menu I checked the settings under option 1,2 and 3 for the “What To Backup: User Libraries:” and they are all set to “1″ for selected from list.

Is there a system value that I need to change?

Thanks for the info. However I went into each option (1,2 and 3) and checked the settings for the “What To Back Up: User Libs:” and they are all currently set to “1″.

This is odd, as when you use the CRTLIB command there is no parm there for adding the LIB to the Back UP. I thought maybe it was a system value or something, any ideas?
