 system restore not working

I was trying to restore my XP machine but each time I select it, nothing happens. I have noticed that the pictures from some web pages do not appear but I get the small box with the red x in it. I also get the "the page cannot be found" message. There must be a easy solution I tried to set IE setting to default but that does not work either. Also IPSEC in services will not start. HELP!!!

Have you tried to restore from 'Safe Mode' - some of the trojan/virus prevent 'system restore' to survive. If safe mode doesn't work then try boot from DOS method (check Microsoft website for directions). If system retore is totally blocked then your option is a complete recovery starting from formating the HD - AFTER YOU HAVE VERIFIED YOUR BACKUP OF DATA. You do have a backup, right? Good luck.
