System Center ports/API’s for import of systems management data from legacy platforms
Are there ports / API's for import of systems management data from the likes of OS/400 and some of the other legacy platforms?

All System Center products have APIs into which data from other systems can be shared, which of course requires programmatic efforts such as that leveraged by our partners, and some of our interoperability connectors. Regarding solutions for OS/400 and other legacy systems, Microsoft does not currently provide any such integration, but you may be able to find a suitable solution out on our PinPoint website (www.pinpoint.com) that details all available management packs and connectors for System Center, both from Microsoft and its partners.

I’m not clear on “legacy systems”. Since Windows is three years older than OS/400 (and a couple decades older than IBM i and even i5/OS), “legacy” seems a little unusual.
Just curious.

Maybe he means systems that are designed and built to allow their owners/operators to run the same programs today that were written over twenty years ago, even though the OS has been able to progress through the years and keep up with the latest technology.

From other experience with Microsoft, if it ain’t Microsoft, they don’t want to know about it. The statement from Microsoft was “Regarding solutions for OS/400 and other legacy systems” – or basically, anything NOT Microsoft.
I do believe there are third party products that allow you to pull system information – much like Management Central does – and present it to an external management / monitoring system. I think that NetIQ’s product for i5OS does that – but then I suppose you would have to be running NetIQ’s complete suite.
But, if you think about it for a minute or less. Do you want someone – who potentially knows NOTHING about OS/400 – in some capacity where they can potentially modify the operating parameters of your system? Not on my watch.
