I am trying to put the users in my system address book (names.nsf) into a user?s local address book.
I have done this by creating a local replica of system names.nsf, giving it a different name on the local machine. I have set up replication so that changes to the system names.nsf will be replicated to the local one, but NOT in the other direction. Then I have replaced the design of this replica, so its design is a personal address book. Next, I copied from the old personal address book to the new one the user?s contacts, plus location information.
Next I rename the old address book, and rename this replica names.nsf, so that when the client starts it will use it as its address book. However, the replication schedule does not show replication with the system names.nsf, as it did before I renamed the files.
The replication schedule appears to be associated with the address book.
How do I copy it to the new names.nsf?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

You are potentially going to make the user’s names.nsf very large, because you’re going to create a person doc for every user in the Domino Directory.
You should consider creating a mobile directory catalog. This is a much smaller “copy” of the Directory because of its design, and it can be replicated regularly to the local user’s workstation.
Then change the NOTES.INI is changed to include
NAMES=names.nsf, CORP_DC.NSF
Now users can use typeahead with dircat and local.
I need to add a detail to my problem. The user wants his names.nsf to have names in it from the system address book because he has a Blackberry handheld device that can sync with his local names.nsf. The solution I am looking for is to have one address book on his computer, with system users in it, and called ‘names.nsf’
Thanks,
Jim
In that case, I think you’ll want to look at the suggestion at http://searchdomino.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid4_gci783782,00.html
While it’s several years old, I believe that it contains MOST of what you want to do. You might need to make some changes. (It refers to an OV Directory – OfficeVision was an IBM messaging system.)
On a side note, Blackberry Enterprise server for Domino has a lookup feature for the Domino directory.
You can get all the best intentioned suggestions you want on this subject BUT I wouldn’t even go there.

I would tend to agree with the latter suggestion. I constantly run into issues with users who add employees to their personal address book. The Directory Catalog is the way to go.

Like Jaltmann mentioned previously, if you do an lookup while composing an email the Blackberry server will pickup the names from the Domino Directory on the Blackberry server. Just type in the last name. I believe you have to do them one at time but it seems to add them to the Blackberry handheld.
