SYS account problems with 9i

Oracle 9i
Hi, When I try to login to the Oracle 9i database as sys, I am getting a TNS-12154 error. Surprisingly, I can log in as SYSTEM and another DBA account. The reason why I need to get in as SYS is to recompile the STANDARD package, as it has become invalid (?), ORA-6553 error and developers are not able to connect thru their apps. Can I reset the sys account password (every time i try that, it gives me the ORA-06553 error) or get in as sysdba or sysoper in some other way? Please advise, Sumesh

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Try: sqlplus sys/passwordsys@dbname

Where: passwordsys is the password of user sys
dbname is the connector for db. (see tnsnames)

In Oracle9i, if you connect as sys, you must connect as sysdba, so the syntax would be: sqlplus "sys/password@dbname as sysdba". Note the double-quotes are necessary.

Alternative, use /nolog option (Nota: NT92 is the db alias, you may also write SQL> connect sys/syspassword@nt92 as sysdba ) --Example-- $ sqlplus /nolog SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Wed Mar 9 11:53:24 2005 Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved. SQL> connect sys@nt92 as sysdba Enter password: Connected. SQL> --EOT--

Sumesh, always use '/ as sysdba' or user/passwd as sysdba. $ sqlplus '/ as sysdba' Regards
