The IP address space of 128.107.7.0/24 has been allocated for all devices on this network. All devices must use the same subnet mask and all subnets are usable. There is a picture showing 3 switchs connected to a router. One switch has 16 users connected to it, one has 32 users connected to it, and the last has 58 users connected to it. Which subnet mask is required to apply the allocated address space to the configuration that is shown? A.255.255.254.0 B.255.255.255.0 C.255.255.255.128 D.255.255.255.192 E.255.255.255.224 It says the answer is D, but I think the answer is B. What is the correct answer, and why is that answer correct?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Using the subnet mask in D would be the most appropriate since that would give subnets capable of supporting 62 hosts, which is the closest to your largest number of users in your requirements. You could use B as the subnet mask but that means you are creating a single subnet for all 3 groups of users.

I would say the correct answer is B also since that is actually the 24 bits in decimal notation. The devices are attached to switches downstream of a router. They all appear to be on the same LAN.

I think what is expected is to have 4 equal-sized subnets WITHIN the 256 address range supplied. since it's multiple subnets on a router (a different switch on each subnet), then D would be correct.
