When you say, "the proper code is executed to clear it." What do you mean. If you've activated the SFLCLR keyword on the subfile control record then written that subfile control record, you still need to write the subfile control record again with SFLDSPCTL active. If you don't have any subfile records, or you don't want to display any records in the subfile, write the subfile control record with SFLDSPCTL active and SFLDSP inactive.
Without seeing what you mean by "the proper code is executed to clear it," that's about all the advice I can offer.
