Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

This may help -

They have a free newsletter, and also a cheap Plus edition.

You can search their archives for specific topics.

You can download all their past tips to your hard drive nad do searches.
I have done that (I have the Plus edition, so I’m not sure if you can download the free edition archives ?)

At the risk of seeming "scrooge-like"... I don't mind helping folks - in fact, I rather like it! But the idea of live chat when I'm trying to get some work done does bother me. I personally much prefer this venue - where you (the student) can ask questions - and believe me, I appreciate that you're open on the subject of being a student. but that I don't need to interrupt my work (living, after all), for someone who needs an immediate answer. Not dumping on you personally - I used to be a student too Bob

I agree with Bob......yes, I do know how hard it is to be a student, but those of us who are out here are usually stressed most of the time and don't get a lot of time to even do this much. I do set some time aside each day to look through my mail from thins list and do my best to answer when I can, but real time would just be too difficult. I too thank you for being up front about being being a student. All too often we see questions that are obviously a student trying to get the ol' homework done without putting any thought into it. Good for you for being honest....we are much more likely to help. As for web sites for you to check on, there are many. First, don't forget the sites of specific companys/vendors. These can be a great resource. As with any online research, you must be careful of the source....there are a lot of guys out there that think they know things, just as there are a lot of sites out there that will try to steal information, or load nasty things on your PC. I used to do a lot of work with University students and the advice to them was the same. If you want good and right answers, go to the source when ever possible. You are lucky to have the Internet as research is much easier now than when I came up. If you want to correspond directly with me, you can post a private message through this forum and I will be happy to answer you when I have a chance. Best of luck, Paul

Although it's not a live chat, you can search via www.google.com and choose the groups. There is a ton of information about a wide range of topics that has helped me out dozens of times. Good luck!

Yes I am a student and I do not want you to give me the answers. I have a specific topic I am working on now, I just need a good sorce to get info, I will do all my own leg work. I want to learn and not have it handed to me. How would I ever keep a job if when I got there I really did not know any thing. I was looking for a chat site that I could ask questions of finding info about different topics OR a web site that my have alot of info for me. If I made anybody mad by asking I am sorry. Its just for some reason I can not find anything on the web that has been able to help me so far.

Hi slyuno. I'm assuming by your original question you need some URLs that will provide you answers on PC hardware - building or fixing or configuring, etc. I'm providing some that may be of help but, I personally have never had time for "live" chat on the net with anyone on these subjects so I can't say if any of these URLs will have that feature. However, I'm hoping this will give you the help you're seeking - good luck! www.winplanet.com www.helponthe.net www.pchelponline.com www.pcnineoneone.com www.pcguide.com www.pctechguide.com www.computerhope.com http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/ http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/ http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html

Good morning.... I am certainly not angry at all that you are a student. I was very glad to see that you gave us that up front. As I think I said, been there done that, and I am, in fact willing to help. You would be more than welcome to contact me privately through this forum and ask questions....if I don't have the answer, I can certainly help you find them. Mentoring is very important in this line of work, and I respect you for seeking assistance. As I said, I am more than heppy to help. I'm not sure about general sites, but if you contact me and we discuss some things, I may be able to point you in the right direction. Best, Paul
