 Start Monitor from Command line
iSeries Access, iSeries administration, iSeries command line, QAYPSJDS, QMGTC, V5R4
I would like to be able to start an iSeries Monitor from the command line. I have a program to check if the monitor is running and would like the program to start the monitor if not running. Found the information about the monitor in file QMGTC/QAYPSJDS.

I’m not aware of any way to do it. But I’m not clear on why you need it either. At V5R4, you should be able to set Management Central to restart monitors automatically.

Can you explain why a monitor isn’t running when it should be?

Every so often our monitors do not start up after an IPL (or when we end TCPIP for backups) and I was going to see if we can automatically start them from a CL instead of having to get on iSeries Navigator

I’ve seen the same thing. Makes you want to not use the IBM monitors if you can’t trust them. BTW, 7.1 does a much better job of either keeping them running or restarting them like it should (can’t comment on 6.1, we skipped it).
