We are trying to process a cube on SSAS 2014 by connecting to SQL Server 2016 database(both are set up on different machines). Though the connection is successful, the process fails saying - "OLE DB or ODBC error". We are using SQL Server Native client provider for the connection string.
As per online documentation, there is no specific SQL Server 2016 native client and the latest version of native client driver can be downloaded from the below link - Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Feature Pack
We’ve tried the following so far:
Installed the latest SQL Native Client Driver from the download link – Connectivity Failed.
Changed the Provider to Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server – Working fine. But learned this is not a recommended approach.
Other driver options
Is option #2 a recommended one? If so, what other considerations do we have to take into account for implementation?
Software/Hardware used: SQL Server SSAS 2014, SQL Server 2016 DB
