I just installed SQL Server 2000 on a brand new Windows 2000 SP4 server. The install did not prompt me for the CD-Key! Does anyone know why this would happen?

Some of Microsoft's changes to enterprise level licensing include shipping said editions without product keys.
This is, the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition does not require a CD-Key. Persumably that is the edition you installed ... ???
