I am trying to install this program on a Windows 7 OS, and I'm having a very difficult time. I have a 64-bit computer, but I'm trying to install the 32-bit version (x86) because I only have a 32-bit version at work, and I'm practicing at home what I eventually want to do at work and I want everything to be consistent.
Everything's fine until I get to the Installation Configuration screen at the install. No matter what I do, whether I choose the default instance or choose "named instance" with MSSQLSERVER, I get validation errors saying the instance is already in use. I have no idea how to get past this, or what I'm doing wrong. There are instances at the bottom of the screen; it's not blank, so I'm wondering if that is causing the conflict.
I tried to install sql server express 2008 with tools, so I'm wondering if that might have gone through and the instance is already there. Could that be possible? Even when I try to choose one of the instances under "installed instance", I still get errors. I have no idea what any of this even means, let alone how to fix it. Could anyone please help? Thank you!
