SQL Server DB Backup

SQL Server, backup database, Backup, SQL Server backup

Hello, I am a new member and would like assistance understanding why when I attempt to schedule a SQL Backup it doesn't seem to stick after I close and reopen it.

I am doing the following:
Windows Server 2003 – Enterprise Edition/SQL Vs. 8
1. SQL Enterprise Manager
2. SQL Server Group
3. Open the appropriate Group (i.e. Local, etc.)
4. Open Management folder
5. Right click Backup
6. Select “Backup database
7. Select DB to backup
8. Use default name
9. Add Description (i.e. HR Database backup, etc.)
10. Select “Database – complete”
11. Remove current Destination
12. Add a Destination
13. Set to Overwrite
14. Check “Schedule” box and click the ellipsis
15. Name the schedule (i.e. PROD1, etc.)
16. Check “Enable”
17. Set the schedule

The problem is when I click ok to everything then reopen the backup everything is the same as it was originally (i.e. shedule did not change, default backup file name is the same, etc.). What am i not doing to make my backup save? Thank you.

The backup window isn't designed to show the already scheduled backups.

Open Management, then open Jobs. Each backup you scheduled will be there as a separate job.

There are some very well priced commerical backup applications that allow you to do this very easily such as the Novastor NovaBACKUP 10 Business Essentials product where you can use the same API that you are currently trying to accomplish.
