I receive the following error when installing SQL Server. I have installed .net 4.0 full x64 bit as some sites suggest but I can't get past the failure. The following error has occurred:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy.8.0.microsoft.vc80.crt, version='8.0.50727.4027', publickeytoken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b', Processorarchitecture='x86',type='win-32-policy'. HRESULT:0x800736fd
I have uninstalled, installed. I am out of answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 2008r2 x64. Recently re-installed after drive failure

There should be more information available as to what the problem is within the installation log file that the SQL installer created.

This error is occurring due to .NET behavior on Windows Server 2008 R2 which has fixed in cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. For cumulative update, please Link Here If possible, check the logs from C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100Setup BootstrapLogsummary.txt and post them here ! (assuming C; is main drive letter). Try out this.... Uninstall .net 4.0 and reinstall NET Framework 3.5 SP1. then try to install Sql Server.

Yes! it true that .net 4.0 make trouble to install Sql. My suggestion is that, You uninstall .net 4.0, Install Sql Server First, then istall .net 4.0. MR. SEA.
