Answer Wiki:
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or ConfigMgr helps to do the job. It supports upgrading an existing SQL Server 2005 database to SQL Server 2008. But does not support new installation using a SQL Server 2008 instance to host the database. It also supports SQL 2008 with SP1. It also keeps servers up-to-date with the latest patches and software updates. Remember, in order to get Config Manager RTM to work with SQL 2008, it is needed to have an existing ConfigMgr RTM site with a SQL 2005 database. NOTE: If running the original, RTM version of Configuration Manager, then first install Configuration Manager 2007 using SQL Server 2005, then upgrade the databases to SQL Server 2008.
