At first glance I would say that you need to look at your memory usage, and your disk IO to see if you are putting more strain on the system than it can support.

How much memory do you have? What is the server setup like?

How much memory is SQL Server using?

************************************************************************

You have to specify the Server hardware configuration like Harddisk, RAM, Processor, virtual memory specifications to draw out a concrete solution to this. there are certain standard queries that can tell you the utilization of RAM, CPU etc. at any instance that you can run at various intervals to further investigate. Database size is another important factor to know.

Hardware: RAM 1 GB, CPU 2GHz
No activity on the server at the moment of Sql Server freeze (CPU use 0%, IO 0%). All ather application work as usual, no delays.
No queries on the Sql Server, just started SQL Server Management Studio Express. Trying to make some simple queries, everything works fine. After a while (1 hour or more) all of a sudden SQL Server freezes. Still 0% system activity. Then a couple of hours later it is back to normal (even without restarting).
