Q:
SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2008 64 bit SP2. Installation issue
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2008 64
bit SP2.

I have installed SQL server 2005 and

SQL server 2005 SP2, however only the SQL Server 2005 configuration tools
appear. (Everything was selected to install)

I have found these posts which have the same issue, but they are for web server
not standard

http://decoding.wordpress.com/2008/04/18/how-to-install-sql-server-2005-on-windows-server-2008/

I have repeated the process on two different servers with the
same results. My understanding from the links above is that this is an issue
that arises from server 2008 begining released after sql 2005. The above links
give a fix location but only for web edition. The patch does not install on
standard. Surely someone must have come across this issue ?

Software/Hardware used:
SQL server 2005 standard X64 Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64 Bit

Hello I am having the same issue! Has anyone come up with an answer yet? I'm quite frustrated by this and am also only finding discussions of the Web edition on-line. What's the deal?

I am not a SQL guy. What follows may or may not apply. This is just my fuzzy recollection of how I, with some help, was able to get SQL Server 2005 running under a 64 bit version of Windows Server 2008.

I had a problem where SQL Server 2005 was not properly installing. As I recall, I had to register the 32bit <a href="http://ASP.NET" title="http://ASP. " target="_blank">ASP.NET</a> (or similar) manually to get everything to work. This was a 32bit version. I do not know if there is a 64bit version of SQL 2005, and, if there is, then this may not apply.

Also, as I see you already have, SQL 2005 requires SP2 to work under 2008.
