I am a local admin on the SQL server machine but do not have access to create a database and to browse other databases on the server. I have access to few databases but not all. Which SQL rights or role do i need to have a full access to the SQL server? Besides above, i should also have rights to create a jobs in SQL. I told my client to give me a sysadmin role but he think this granted the full access to the server and might not be necessary? Is there any other access or rights or suggestion that will help me to do all I have mentioned above. Create database, Create jobs, Access databases on the server.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

In order to create databases you need dbcreator role.

The following article expalins the various roles and what permissions they give. While sysadmin would give you GOD power over the server and sounds like that isn’t something the client is comfortable with, there is no standard role that will give you the specific things you state here that you need. They would probably have to create a custom role to do that.
