My wife and I just moved into a brand new apartment. Everything is great except for one thing: The Wi-Fi speed is terrible. When I'm connected through an ethernet cable, it's pretty good but wirelessly, it's terrible. It takes a few minutes to load pages - can't get anything done. I know this is a general question but I need to ask it: Is there any way I can make it faster?

You can look into getting a range extender or signal booster. Depending on where the wi-fi router is and where you device is. It may be a weak or even almost a dead zone. Another ting may be if the router is old it may not be up to todays standards.

Several things you keep your mind while connecting a Wi-Fi network. It is an importance of picking a good spot for Wi-Fi router. Mainly the distance is a matter. Check if there a radio noise that blocking the Wi-Fi smooth connection. However, Wi-Fi is to be on a different frequency than most of the devices, but sometimes the amount of radio noise can still cause interference. As you mentioned this your brand new apartment, sometimes, environmental Issues like construction materials/objects within the apartment may cause for the same. Moreover, you can run Wi-Fi on your smartphone and check if the speed better then your laptop/PC.
