Spawning additional stored procedures in SQL Server 2000

Is it possible in SQL Server 2000 for a stored procedure to spawn a second stored procedure which will not interfere or slow down the processing of the original? I need the original procedure to finish and return its output variables to the calling program before the second (whose function is to audit the activity of the first) begins its processes. My goal is to get auditing without slowing down the original procedure.

Yes but both SP’s are going to use the same tables and views so are likely to dead-lock each other. I think you need to rethink this one.
