I have another client that I am having trouble with. The client was having power issues throughout the day yesterday. Their server, which is running Exchange 2003 Small Business server, had issues. One of the techs ran a chkdsk on the system and now they have lost their priv1.edb. I cannot use the Recovery store to restore from tape. I cannot restore to the original location. Do we have to completely remove and re-install Exchange? Or is their some way to fix this beast? Debbie

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Do you have a backup of the information store? If you can restore to a different location you can copy the database back to the original location. I would restore to a new location, Copy my existing Databases to a different location or rename the folder. Create a new folder give the needed rights to the folder c:exchvrMDbdata Copy your recovered database to the folder, you don’t need the log files. You should run eseutil on the new databases. This will insure that the data from your restore is good. Then try to mount the databases.

Maybee priv.edb is just lost from the file table. Try using Winternals administrator pack. You can salvage lost files if they have not been overwrittten.
