I have recently started out in a QA position for a group that develops all sorts of web software / portals. I'm not looking for anything to do automated testing, but more something to aid us with our testing plans - organizing them, and hopefully making it easier to test.
Any thoughts? I've done the OpenSource search - and have been somewhat let down. I found a few - but have not been impressed yet - maybe I'm wrong.

I work for SmartBear Software:
I would like to bring your attention to a commercial tool for test automation and one for test management that are integrated but sold separately from the same vendor, SmartBear Software. Check out SoftwarePlanner and TestComplete. Sounds like the right middle ground you are looking for to manage your test cases.

Hi there,
Software Quality Assurance should go beyond testing. A good complement to functional tests is static code analysis to assure compliance with market best practices, detect possible structural defects, duplicated code and more to ultimately reduce maintenance costs. Do you think that static code analysis can improve the overall quality of software systems?
If the answer is yes, check out how you can harness the quality of your code with our latest cloud service
