Softphone issues

Telecom, VoIP, Softphone

We have remote workers who use softphone on their laptops. The softphone patches into our company phone system so clients have a seamless connection to the offsite employee. softphone quality is not ecceptable due the issues invoving internet connections and folks with several applications that are open and IM and emails.

I would like to know if I could have land lines installed and have the land line patched in to go thru softphone software directly into our company phone system. The phone would be independant of the cable/DSL line.

Does anyone have an idea?

This is the inhearant problem with softphone applications. There are some home routers out there which can be setup with QOS on them so that the VOIP traffic is givin priority.

If you are going to install POTS lines in the employee's homes, why bother with VOIP. Simply have an extention on the PBX forward the call to the land line at the employee's home.
