 SOA – Is it lethal? Acronyms in other languages.

Hi all, I just saw a link from one of the blogs here to a cartoon about SOA. The cartoon was quite funny, but I thought that the meaning of SOA in dutch was even funnier. In dutch it stands for "sexueel overdraagbare aandoening" which means sexually transmitted disease. I guess the whole SOA hype isn't going to get so popular here unless they come up with another name or acronym for it. Anybody got any other acronyms like this? Regards, Martin Gilbert.

Great one, Martin! WhatIs.com has a long list of <a href="http://searchcrm.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid11_gci211776,00.html">chat abbreviations</a> but we haven't delved into many of the possible misinterpretations that exist out there for the many IT acronyms in other languages. I have to admit, I wonder now whether there are many visits to SearchSOA.com that originate in Amsterdam due young people trying to learn more about personal afflictions. ******************************************* I think if the concept behind the name is strong, it does not matter much about the name or the meaning of it in one country’s language. That way there will be many words having different meanings in different languages. SOA if a little twisted in my language will mean ‘sleeping’.
