Can I use SNMP traps to alert me to computer issues on the network? Like lack of antivirus or a firewall?

Answer Wiki:
It is possible, but it will depend on the SNMP agent running on each equipment.

Most SNMP agents report failures or the occurrence of specific events.

In this case, a better solution is probably a monitoring server that queries the monitored clients periodically. Depending on the monitoring solution, this could require the installation of a sepecial agent.

WMI could also be used to get information about Windows machines.
