You should look into minimum RAM requirements for the operating systems you are using.

You would be better off if you upgraded the RAM to at least 1GB. All the virus/firewall/spam detectors you are getting advised to use are going to make it worse, as they need more RAM to run than you have installed.

If the computer is slow on both Operating Systems then spyware has nothing to do with it. If only windows, then most likely that could be the problem.

As a sidenote, you will notice performance increases by increasing the amount of RAM that you have. Most systems you buy today come with at least 512MB of RAM.

Go to microsoft.com and download their antispyware BETA, update, and run a full scan. remove/quarantine everything that it finds. You may also want to make sure you're virus def's are current, boot to safe mode, and run a full virus scan. oh yeah, and up the memory to at least 256MB.

I'll assume your question is logical and that it is slow in both OSs. I would check your hard drive for problems with the manufacturer's test utility. Sometimes their utility will ok the drive when it is still bad especially in slow down situations. Find a hard drive speed test and compare yours to others to find out if the speed is normal.

Gee, it was working fine until 5 or 6 days ago.
Virus - Worm - Trojan - Spyware; something has installed itself and you no longer own the computer.

A - are both systems displaying the problem, you did say dual boot?

B - Did you install any programs? Or patches?

C - In XP you could chose a restore point, but that is also why you would need 256MB of RAM to equal the performance of 2k.

Get a copy of 'RootKit Detector' and boot from CD.

Good Luck.
