I have 516 different functions in SQL Server 2000 that are used for different calculations. These functions will operate on more than a thousand Microsoft Excel files. Each Excel file has 960 rows, and generating the report took over four hours. Is there a way to shorten this?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Are your functions accessing tables when running? It so stop using the functions, or pass in all the needed data to the function so that the function does not need to go to the tables.

When you use a SQL function in a SELECT statement, and that function runs queries of its own the SELECT statement will run very slow because each row has the run the function seperatly.

If you can provide come sample code it would make it easier to provide you with assistance.
