Setting up office network over analog telephone lines
We have a small business with one central office (with 5 separate telephone lines, each has a different number) and four smaller offices at distant locations, each office has two separate telephone lines, that are not adsl, they are common analog lines. we want to create a small network to exchange files with each other, using the telephone lines (RJ11), The idea is to setup a linux server on the central office, with four analog modems connected to the motherboard, each connected to a line with a distant office, We cannot afford a adsl/isdn connection for all offices, so we will use the existing analog lines. Any help you can provide in details about the hardware needed and the required software will be valuable.

Software/Hardware used:
ubuntu server 11.10, 5 H/Y running ubuntu 10.04.

We cannot afford a adsl/isdn connection for all offices, so we will use the existing analog lines.” ….. why could not u capable to make connection that is not clear here, is there driver probs / Linux did not recognize the modem / what kind of conn u r using like ppoe or others….. r u using any gui feature like kppp etc that could not reach the goal what is it. r u using slip / ppp conn for that purpose. I worked on the same environment and now my SuSE server is connected via modem with remote comp(XP) where files and our biometric data is downloaded thru modem and phone line. Although I used SuSE (u r using Ubuntu) linux but I think all linux has core architecture and command line almost same. It might be that, my opinion is not on the right way, though ur Q is interesting and hope u will solve ur probs definitely.
