Server 2003.. lost access to workgroup
Installed server 2003's SP2 onto an existing 2003 in Dec 2007 Replaced a switch between the server & 10 clients..today Can't access workgroup computers.. Server has 2 switches on 2 different gig-network cards.. untouched switch/one is good.. can see workgroup pc's attached to that switch error as noted from client pc not accessing server... GZ is not acccessible. you don't have permission to this network source. call administrator about access permissions. How can a changing out a network switch do this kind of damage?

Answer Wiki:
If the network switch and the Ethernet port are not talking at the same speed it can cause this kind of issue. Can you ping between the server and the workstation across the network switch? Is the network switch getting any packet errors? You mention that the untouched switch is working and PC's on that switch can see the server. It's possible that the second switch may not have the ports configured correctly if you have implemented vlans or ports aren't configured properly. Also, it's possible some cables didn't get moved correctly.

Mrdenny is correct. if the network switch is the new equipment and all of the workstations cannot access it then check the config on the switch. Is it set to auto-negotiate the speed? If so the workstations might have a problem negotiating the speed. try setting the switch port to 100 full and set the workstation to 100 full to see if that works. Are the workstations getting addresses from the server? If not then try statically setting an address and see if that helps.

BLKing08a , may I ask why two switches? Are they on different IP subnets? Also, you mention the clients that are on the untouched switch can see the server fine… which seems to imply there are clients on the second switch– which might not see the server or other resources.

Can you clarify your configuration?

Another thing occured to me… Have you checked to ensure the link/duplex/and speed settings on the uplinked ports for teh new switch are accurately set?
