Has anyone implemented a Sentinel IPS appliance and how does it compare with the Cisco ASA IPS module?

Yes, I implemented the Sentinal IPS at my last shop, and intend to deploy it here at my new shop soon. The Cisco device is a good solution, but the service and technology offered by Sentinel couldn't be beaten for the price-point. From using it for over 5 years in my previous shop, I can assure you that there was no degredation in speed nor did this have any negative effects on the online services we provided.
