The process is essentially identical to sending emails from the AS400. What you need to know is the carrier's email domain. You can usually Google for this. As was mentioned: Verizon uses vtext.com; AT&T uses txt.att.net; etc.

We maintain a database of users who get notifications, and we have their full text message email addresses.

Oh, and if you are already sending out email notifications, you may need to shrink them down in verbage for SMS, or you will end up sending 5 page SMS notifications... :)

My cell phone can receive emails as text.
I use Verizon, so I send email to my phone # plus '@vtext.com'
so
3125551234@vtext.com

Em's link has plenty of good stuff. I'll use it when we finally get around to replacing our MPlus
